Brian Gay carded a bogey-free seven-under-par 64 to take the lead after the first round of the Chrysler Championship.

Gay birdied his first two holes and never looked back at the demanding Innisbrook course.

"It was a great start, I wedged it close on number one and made a nice putt on number two," the 34 year-old said.

"I didn't really hit it that good in the middle of the round but I continued to putt well and when I got in trouble I made a couple of good saves."

Gay is two shots in front of veteran Mark Calcavecchia, with Steve Elkington, Duffy Waldorf, Daniel Chopra and Heath Slocum three strokes back.
