WOMEN'S FOOTBALL SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP:GALWAY UPSET the form book in Charlestown yesterday as they dethroned last year's winners Mayo to land the TG4 Connacht Ladies senior football crown for the first time since 2006.

Galway triumphed by 3-17 to 2-8 at O’Hara’s pitch to collect the CBE cup for the eighth time.

Una Carroll scored 2-4 and Anne Marie McDonagh chipped in with 1-2. Carroll scored a penalty and missed another in the opening half, while McDonagh added Galway’s second goal as Gay O’Brien’s charges led 2-10 to 2-5 at half-time.

Tyrone claimed their fifth Ulster Harte Cup senior crown with a 3-8 to 0-13 victory over last year’s winners Monaghan at Breffni Park, Cavan.

Sarah Connolly scored a controversial Tyrone goal in the sixth minute as Monaghan claimed a square ball before Cathy Donnelly goaled late in the half. Tyrone led by 2-6 to 0-7 at the interval.

On Saturday, reigning National League, provincial and All-Ireland champions Cork crushed Kerry by 6-16 to 0-9. Also on Saturday, Dublin beat Meath by 5-6 to 1-8 and advanced to the Leinster final, where they will meet Kildare.
