Junior Open:Top seed Niall Fitzgerald romped into the second round of the Irish Junior Open championships at under-18 level, losing only three games to David Murray at the Fitzwilliam club in Dublin yesterday.

Fitzgerald raced to a 6-0 first set success on the half hour. Murray won three games in the second set but Fitzgerald proved far too resilient.

Niall Murphy, the favourite to take the under-16 title, was in great form, winning 6-1, 6-1 against Oisín McCormack.

Darragh Glavin impressed as top seed in the under-14 singles, beating Ben Dillon 6-3, 6-4.
