THE Dundalk FC Community Trust has joined forces with a local consortium to agree a takeover of Dundalk FC, a move that both parties as well as current owner Gerry Matthews say will secure the future of the club which has been battling mounting financial problems over the past year or so.

Consortium spokesman, Ciaran Bond, said that having seen the books, the prospective owners appreciate that the situation at the club “is more serious than anticipated”, but that some urgent debts have been addressed and a number of wider problems will have to be tackled over a period of time.
