KEN DOHERTY was a surprise casualty in the Regal Welsh snooker Open yesterday when he lost 5-4 to Cardiff's Paul Davies after leading 4-2.

Doherty, who won this event in 1993, scored just two points in the final three frames as Davies dominated the closing stages to storm through to a clash with fellow Welshman Mark Williams, who defeated Tony Drago.
