Jimmy McAree, one of the most successful managers in the history of Irish professional boxing, died in Belfast yesterday. He was 79.

A former fighter from the Ardoyne district, McAree guided Freddie Gilroy to the British, European and Commonwealth bantamweight titles. McAree also managed Freddie Teidt, who won a silver medal at the Melbourne Olympic Games.
