Death of Dave Baker

THE death took place peacefully at home yesterday of Dave Baker after a long illness. Until his retirement in February, 1992, he had filled the post of The Irish Field's assistant editor and chief racing reporter.

He joined The Irish Times back in 1947, but racing was his life. Long before he switched to The Irish Field in the mid 1960s, he was a weekly contributor and pioneered the race comments and betting trends.
