Frank Darcy was the delighted winner of the Great Southern Hotel open singles at St Helen's Bay on Sunday. Darcy, playing off a 16 handicap, has been dogged for most of the season with a back injury which has seriously curtailed his golf. He only returned to competitive golf last month, but the rest paid off on Sunday when he returned 45 points to win by six points from Morgan Ferriter and John McDonald. Kathy O'Boyle also had a good score in the women's section, with 42 points. O'Boyle won by three from Eleanor Curran, with Betty Reddy a further six points back in third place.
