Ireland's Trevor Coyle beat Britain's William Funnell for one of Europe's richest showjumping prizes at the Pavarotti International in Modena, Italy, last night.

Coyle, on Cruising, held off Surrey rider Funnell, on Comex, in a five horse timed jump off to lift the San Marino Grand Prix top prize of about £55,000.

Funnell - who matched Coyle's - three clear rounds, but was three seconds slower - picked up around £35,000.
