An improved second-half display helped Good Counsel College to a 1-11 to 1-9 victory over local rivals St Peter’s College in an entertaining Leinster Colleges A SHL semi-final at Enniscorthy yesterday.

The opening 30 minutes saw a shoot-out develop between the respective free-takers, Cian O’Donohoe and Jake Firman as Good Counsel edged into a 0-7 to 0-6 interval lead.

Seven minutes after the break, James Doyle’s fine goal from a O’Donohoe pass extended the lead to 1-8 to 0-7. Good Counsel continued to maintain the whip hand and a late Pádraig Foley goal from a free for St Peter’s proved in vain.

Scorers: Good Counsel: C O’Donohoe 0-7 frees, J Doyle 1-2, C Ryan, M Coady 0-1 each.

St Peter’s: J Firman 0-6 frees, P Foley 1-1 frees, C Devereux, D Shanley 0-1 each.
