CLARE footballers won the McGrath Cup for the eighth time by beating a vastly improved London outfit at Ruislip yesterday.

With the scores level at 2-8 each at the end of 60 minutes, the match went into extra time when Clare's superior fitness was a telling factor in the final result.

With the advantage of a near galeforce wind London led by eight points at the interval but the arrival of Francis McInerney from the substitutes' bench transformed Clare in the second half. McInerney scored seven points and had a hand in substitute Cathal Shannon's goal.
