Castletroy College and Midleton CBS filled the remaining two Dr Harty Cup quarter-final spots as they beat De La Salle Waterford and Nenagh CBS respectively in yesterday’s group games.

At Cashel, Castletroy went into their final clash with the 2007 and ’08 champions knowing a win was needed to progress. De La Salle got off to a fine start as Seán Hogan found the net and Billy O’Keeffe, Adam Farrell and David Walshe added points.

Castletroy responded with a goal kicked to the net by Ed Doyle and points from Barry Nash and Tom Morrissey but at half-time De La Salle still led by two points.

But Castletroy hit an uninterrupted 1-4 in the third quarter, John Fox firing home an excellent individual goal, and though points from Austin Gleeson and Billy O’Keeffe kept De La Salle in touch, the Limerick lads held on to win 2-9 to 1-9.

At Charleville, Midleton CBS looked to be heading out as reigning All-Ireland champions Nenagh CBS reeled off four unanswered points, two from Donncha Quinn and one apiece from Killian Gleeson and Andy Dunne, to lead 1-11 to 0-13 late on. But points from Niall Motherway and Billy Dunne ensured a dramatic late victory for Midleton.
