Jim Carvill, unaffected by the strong wind on the back nine, claimed the professional's prize at the Des Smyth golf classic, sponsored by Mitsubishi Motors, at Royal Dublin yesterday. Carvill's three under par 69 gave him a one-shot victory over Argentina's Angel Cabrera. Carvill reached the turn in 33 and was the only player to beat par on the homeward journey.

Cabrera had the satisfaction of bringing home the winning team of Paddy Whelan, Gerry Brannigan and Noel O'Callaghan, with 92 points.
