While the Whites boasted individual talents in the Leinster Schools trial at Donnybrook yesterday, the Blues knuckled down and played more to a team plan. They led 17-0 at the break thanks to tries from Paul Madden and Dermot O'Loughlin (2) and a conversion by full-back Gordon Darcy.

During the interval, numerous replacements came into the reckoning and this tended to even up matters. Nonetheless, the Blues still out-scored the opposition, with tries by Gareth Rossi, Tom Carter and Henry Hegarty, with one conversion from John Davis. For the Whites, Ron Murphy and Donal Crotty scored tries, to both of which JP Byrne added the points.
