Colin Montgomerie's late-season recovery seems to be well and truly complete following another superb victory in the German Masters. The Scot is now a heavy favourite to finish top of the Order of Merit for an astonishing sixth consecutive time.
His victory allowed him to overtake long-time leader Lee Westwood and Darren Clarke. As a result, Montgomerie and Clarke have withdrawn from the action this week in the Belgacom Open at the Royal Zoute Golf Club in Belgium, and Westwood is rated as doubtful. There's just not enough money on offer.
So the value-for-money betting mantle rests squarely on the shoulders of young Swede Robert Karlsson, runner-up alongside Vijay Singh in Germany last weekend, who represents outstanding value at 33 to 1. Fellow countryman PerUlrik Johansson seems to have rediscovered his form, but 16 to 1 appears a little mean.
Former Ryder Cup star Sam Torrance is excellent value at 40 to 1, and those who choose to remain patriotic in their investments should favour Paul McGinley at 33 to 1.
