Galway's Francis Barrett became ABA welterweight champion in an untidy fight against Tim Smith of the Handsworth Club at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena last night.
Southpaw Barrett, who represented Ireland in the Atlanta Olympics, got home on the countback system by 52-47 after the computer verdict had scored it 11-11.
