Staying with athletics, the Ballycotton 10 mile road race has been ranked as the third best road race in these islands by the prestigeous running magazine Runner's World. The Ballycotton `10' is ranked behind two of the most famous races in the world, the London Marathon and the Great Northern Run.

The criteria used in the vote were organisation, popularity, atmosphere, fast time potential and value for money. From a possible 100 points, the London marathon received 86 points while the Ballycotton and the Great Northern Run polled 79 points each.
