England international Delon Armitage has received an eight-week ban after being cited for a tip tackle in last weekend’s Heineken Cup game between Toulon and Montpellier.

The suspension was announced by European Rugby Cup last night following Toulon fullback Armitage’s appearance at a disciplinary hearing in Dublin.

Armitage pleaded not guilty, but his suspension means he cannot play again until March 18th.

Armitage was yellow-carded by referee Alain Rolland following the incident that involved Montpellier fullback Pierre Berard.

Racing Metro forward Antoine Battut has been suspended for two weeks arising from a red card issued during the Heineken Cup match against Munster.

Battut was shown a red card by Wayne Barnes for an alleged strike with the knee on Tommy O’Donnel’s head.
