Madam, – I refer to the heading “Harming world’s poorest and ourselves” on Fintan O’Toole’s cogent article (Opinion, May 19th) in which he deplored the fact that we are currently taking a scythe to the aid budget for the poorest countries. The opposite to this heading is equally true, experience constantly shows that we become, in unexpected significant ways, beneficiaries when we set out to help others. – Yours, etc,
