Sir, - I can think of one very compelling reason for having the proposed LUAS service above ground - safety. As the mother of children who would be using this service as young teenagers by the time it comes on stream, I would under no circumstances allow them to travel anywhere in this city on an underground system.
On some of the quieter lines, our children would be sitting ducks to the people who break into our houses in broad daylight and constantly patrol our neighbourhoods, waiting for any opportunity to take what isn't theirs. Given that we have already had to drum in to our children the dangers of going anywhere alone and walking in unlit or out-of-the-way places, it seems terribly unfair to add yet another obstacle and source of danger to their young lives. - Yours, etc.,
