SAN CRISTOBAL - Subcomandante Marcos, the masked leader of the Zapatista rebels in the Mexican state of Chiapas, made his first public appearance in two years yesterday at a forum on indigenous rights. Witnesses said Marcos arrived under escort by the International Red Cross shortly before 6 p.m. (midnight Irish time). He was scheduled to give a speech later.
