LUSAKA - President Frederick Chiluba of Zambia seemed headed for a landslide victory yesterday as vote counting passed the halfway mark in the southern African country's disputed general election.
Seven opposition parties boycotted the poll, charging that Mr Chiluba had rigged the campaign in advance and said they would not recognise the result. Mr Chiluba had secured 76 per cent of the votes cast in 87 of 150 constituencies which reported final results.
