Youth denies drugs charge

A 16-year-old youth threw cannabis into the back garden of a house when chased by gardai, it was claimed yesterday

A 16-year-old youth threw cannabis into the back garden of a house when chased by gardai, it was claimed yesterday. Garda Declan O'Sullivan had been watching the youth at a soccer pitch. The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, met a people there. He had items which he distributed, said Garda O'Sullivan, but when two gardai moved in, he ran off and threw something into a garden in which a bar of cannabis resin was later found.

The youth is pleading not guilty to charges of possessing drugs with intent to sell or supply on May 31st, 1996. The case continues today before Judge Patrick Moran at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
