Gardaí set up checkpoints near a racing event in Co Longford today after young motorists travelling to it were reported breaking speed limits.
The drag racing event at Abbeyshrule Airfield, near Ballymahon was due to take place today.
A spokesman said: "Gardai have already stopped a number of young drivers on the approach roads to this event driving at speeds well in access of the area speed limits. Checkpoints will be put in place to detect offenders."
Gardai in Co Longford said the racing event was cancelled after a larger crowd than expected turned up.
