Young man questioned over murder in Sligo

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Sligo by gardai investigating the murder of a man in the town yesterday.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Sligo by gardai investigating the murder of a man in the town yesterday.

The body of Paul Waters, who was in his forties and lived with his elderly mother in Avondale, Sligo, was discovered beside a car-park yesterday morning. He was a former soldier who had served in Lebanon.

It appears that he died from head injuries.

Gardai are questioning the young man under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He can be held for 12 hours.
