A man has been rescued after his yacht ran aground in Baltimore Harbour in Co Cork.

The 40-foot Dublin-registered steel sloop had anchored in the harbour. However, winds increased to storm force and dragged the vessel onto rocks at Bull Point, some 50 metres from Baltimore Lifeboat station.

The lifeboat was launched immediately and the yacht was towed to safety at Sherkin Island.
