Work will start this week on a €28 million railway station in Dublin's docklands.

The new station, which will cater for an underground rail link from Spencer Dock to Heuston station, will also enable passengers to transfer from the proposed extension of the Luas red line to the IFSC.

Construction work is due to begin in 2009 on the underground rail link from the docklands to Heuston station.

The proposed Dart interconnector line is expected to quadruple the number of commuter rail journeys in the capital from the current 25 million to 100 million.

Work on the station is expected to be complete by the middle of next year. The underground link is due to be completed in 2015.
