The National Women's Council of Ireland is to visit the women's prison in Mountjoy to investigate reports of serious overcrowding and deteriorating conditions. The council's chairwoman, Ms Noreen Byrne, said there were reports of women having to sleep in recreation areas, inadequate cooking facilities and waiting lists for education and training.
