Two Donegal women were grinning and bearing it yesterday as 15 syndicate colleagues shared a €200,000 Lotto Plus 2 win.

Ms Louise Boyle and Ms Martina Fox, who arrived recently at the Hospira medical goods factory in Donegal town, would have benefited from the jackpot had they joined the syndicate a few days earlier.

Ms Boyle (28), an accountant, rejected suggestions that she and Ms Fox were the unluckiest women in Ireland.

"We're delighted for them. They're a great bunch of people. We weren't in, so we couldn't win. But we're staying with the syndicate. There's no reason why it won't be lucky again."

Syndicate head Mr Tommy Geraghty said the group had been playing the Lotto for 14 years. They contributed €12 each per month and bought a selection of Quickpick numbers four weeks in advance.
