A WOMAN was unfairly dismissed from her job at the Dublin Airport Authority’s creche over allegations she mistreated a child there, an Employment Appeals Tribunal has ruled.

Tribunal chairman Mark O’Connell yesterday described as “shocking and outrageous” the DAA’s bid to support the “extremely serious” allegations against Vanessa Curry (37), Ennislare Road, Armagh, with inadmissible hearsay evidence.

Ms Curry was employed at the Dublin Airport Workplace Nursery from July 2007. She was dismissed in October 2009 after an investigation into the allegations against her. She appealed to the tribunal. The DAA provided statements from people who allegedly witnessed two incidents of mistreatment by Ms Curry but did not call them to give evidence, meaning she would have no opportunity to cross-examine them.

The ruling on the amount of compensation to be paid to Ms Curry will be delivered later.
