Woman taken from River Lee named

A post mortem has confirmed that the a woman whose body was taken from Cork's River Lee this morning died of drowning.

A post mortem has confirmed that the a woman whose body was taken from Cork's River Lee this morning died of drowning.

Gardaí this evening named the 54-year-old as Marion O'Leary, a native of Gurranabraher, Co. Cork.

Her body was recovered by divers from the Naval Service after gardai were notified that a woman had entered the water at around 4am. It is understood she was drinking with a man close to where her body was found.

A spokeswoman said gardaí continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death but said they were not launching murder investigation. Anybody who may have been in the Albert Quay / Kennedy Quay area last night or in the early hours of this morning has been asked to contact gardaí.
