Gardaí in Roscommon have launched an investigation after the body of a woman in her late 40s, was found with stab wounds on a road outside a house at Abbeytown in Co Roscommon this afternoon.
The incident is thought to have taken place at around 2.30pm today.
A man in his 20s was detained at the scene and is currently being questioned at Roscommon Garda Station.
The woman’s body has been removed for a post mortem which is likely to take place tomorrow. .
