A man has been arrested after a woman was shot in the stomach during an attempted robbery in Newry last night.
Shortly after 11.30pm a man armed with a handgun entered a gaming arcade on Upper Water Street and demanded cash from a female member of staff.
The man then shot the woman in the stomach before fleeing empty-handed in the direction of High Street.
The woman, aged in her 40s, was taken to hospital where her injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.
Police later described the man as being of slim build and average height. He was wearing a blue tracksuit top and a scarf or bandana covering his face.
