A woman is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed a number of times in Ranelagh tonight.
The incident took place in a house on the Ranelagh Road at around 7pm.
Gardai described the incident as a "serious assault".
A man was arrested and detained at Donnybrook Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The area where the assault took place was sealed off for forensic examination.
