The discovery of a woman's body in Dublin's Royal Canal this morning is not suspicious, gardaí have said.

The discovery of a woman's body in Dublin's Royal Canal this morning is not suspicious, gardaí have said.

The woman's remains were found in the water near Drumcondra around 10am.

The body will be removed to the City Morgue where a post mortem examination will be carried out later today.

Gardaí are still unsure of the person's identity and are searching missing persons files in relation to the incident.

"We are not treating the discovery as suspicious," a Garda spokesman said.
