A South African mother of three was yesterday jailed at Cork Circuit Criminal Court for four years for importing £40,000 worth of cannabis herb into Ireland.

Lucia Matia (36), of 1922A Zola South, Kwakuna, Soweto 1868, South Africa, pleaded guilty to possessing 12kg of cannabis at Parnell Place and to importing the drug into Ireland at Cork Airport on May 31st. Judge Patrick Moran said he would review the sentence in February 2001.
