A woman was injured this morning after jumping from a first-floor window following a suspected arson attack on her home in Co Tyrone.

The blaze broke out in the Moygashel Court area of Dungannon at around 2.45am.

The woman broke her ankle in the fall. It is understood the fire was started in a wheelie bin.

Meanwhile, 200 homing pigeons died in a suspected arson attack on six lofts at the rear of a house in Killyleagh, Co Down.

A spokeswoman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said the fire was being treated as suspicious.

In south Belfast, six fire crews battled a major blaze overnight. A gas mains at the back of the fast-food outlet in the Newtown Park area of the Four Winds caught fire at around 3am.

A number of nearby homes were evacuated as crews fought the fire. The chip shop was badly damaged but fire crews, who were on the scene until after 6am, managed to prevent the blaze spreading to other properties.
