A drug addict who kicked a woman in the head, stomach and arms while attempting to snatch her handbag has been jailed for five years.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that Michael Cahill dragged Ms Mary Connolly along Fleet Street, Dublin, when she refused to let go of her bag. Cahill (25), of Captain's Road, Crumlin, Dublin, pleaded guilty to nine counts of robbery on various dates in 1998. He had 18 previous convictions. Judge Elizabeth Dunne told Cahill if he continued to take heroin he would have a "dark, bleak future", marked by trips to court and prison.
