Woman dies in Ballina house fire

A woman (62) has been killed in a house fire in Ballina, Co Mayo.

A woman (62) has been killed in a house fire in Ballina, Co Mayo.

It is understood the alarm was raised at about 4.00am when the woman's son arrived back at their home in Convent Hill and discovered the blaze in his mother's bedroom.

Despite attempts by the son and members of the Ballina fire brigade to rescue her, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The house has been sealed off pending a Garda technical examination.
