A woman in her late 40s died last night when the car she was driving went out of control and collided with a sign post in Co Louth last night.

The crash happened shortly before 10pm at Dromad, on the old Dundalk to Newry Road.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to Louth County Hospital Dundalk.

There were no other passengers in the vehicle.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have examined the scene and the road is now open.
