Woman dies after Galway crash

A 37 year-old female pedestrian has died after she was hit by a van in Co Galway yesterday afternoon.

A 37 year-old female pedestrian has died after she was hit by a van in Co Galway yesterday afternoon.

The woman died in hospital after she was struck by the vehicle on the N59 Clifden to Westport road near Leenane at around 3.30pm.

The woman was taken to Castlebar General Hospital before she was transferred to University Hospital Galway where she was pronounced dead in the early hours of this morning.

The road is closed ahead of a garda forensic examination and diversions are in place.

Gardai in Cliften have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the collision
or may have information in relation to the collision to contact them on 095
