Woman dies after Castleknock attack

A post mortem is taking place tonight on the body of a woman found dead in her Dublin home this morning.

A post mortem is taking place tonight on the body of a woman found dead in her Dublin home this morning.

The woman died in hospital after being attacked in her house in the suburb of Castleknock.

Gardaí were called to Laverna Dale in Castleknock at about 10.40 and found the woman in her early forties seriously injured. She was taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown but died of her injuries.

She was the mother of three children aged 3, 6 and 9.

A man was later arrested in connection with the fatal assault and is being questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act in Blanchardstown Garda Station.

The State Pathologist Marie Cassidy began a post mortem examination this evening and a crime scene examination team from the Garda Technical Bureau was requested.
