Gardai at Askeaton confirmed that a woman who died when her car plunged into the river Shannon was Mrs Joan Kirby (39), Castlegrey, Kildimo, Co Limerick. The accident happened off Ringmoylan pier on Tuesday afternoon. She is survived by her husband, Eddie, and two sons.
Gardai are investigating the circumstances of the tragedy and an inquest will be held.
