A female cyclist has died after being hit by a car in Co Limerick this morning.

A female cyclist has died after being hit by a car in Co Limerick this morning.

The collision occurred about two kilometres outside Bruff on the Kilmallock road at 6.50am. The woman, aged in her forties, died at the scene.

Traffic diversions were put in place, and the woman's body has been removed to Limerick Regional Hospital.

A Garda press office spokesman said the Bruff-to-Kilmallock road may be closed for most of the day while gardaí investigate.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to contact Bruff Garda Station on 061-382940.
