A woman has been remanded on bail after she was yesterday charged with attempting to bribe a member of An Garda Síochána.

Xuan Wang (27), Oliver Plunkett Hill, Fermoy, Co Cork, was yesterday charged with a breach of section 2 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 2001.

The State alleges that Ms Wang attempted to bribe an agent of the State, Garda Maurice Mulcahy, an immigration garda, at Fermoy Garda station, on May 31st, 2009.

Det Sgt Seán Leahy gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution at Fermoy District Court yesterday and told the court Ms Wang made no reply to the charge.

After hearing an outline of the alleged facts, Judge Michael Pattwell accepted jurisdiction and remanded Ms Wang on bail to appear again on November 27th.
