A 48 year old widow who fell into a trench outside her home was awarded £30,000 damages in the Circuit Court yesterday.

A 48 year old widow who fell into a trench outside her home was awarded £30,000 damages in the Circuit Court yesterday.

Judge Diarmuid Sheridan said Mrs Dolores Byrne, of Rollins Villas, Dun Laoghaire, had been "treated abominably". Sub contractors had dug a trench in Mrs Byrne's back yard in December 1992 after Dun Laoghaire Corporation offered to build her a bathroom but had left the site unattended for four months.
