Woman and great-grandson die in house fire

A woman in her nineties and her eleven-month-old great-grandson were killed by a house fire in Longford town last night.

A woman in her nineties and her eleven-month-old great-grandson were killed by a house fire in Longford town last night.

Ms Ellen Lawrance (91) died at the scene after the fire broke out in Springlawn Estate at around 10.30 p.m. She was found dead in a downstairs room.

Her great grandson, Michael Doyle was taken to Mullingar General Hospital but was dead on arrival.

The baby’s parents, who were in the house, are being treated for minor injuries in hospital.

Gardaí are investigating the cause of the fire, but foul play is not suspected.
