Dublin gardai searched the Liffey after a report that a middle-aged homeless woman was thrown into the river by two men.

Gardai were told on Saturday morning that the woman, who has been living rough in the city centre for several years, had been assaulted by two men with whom she had been drinking, and thrown into the river at Sir John Rogerson's Quay.

Officers from the sub-aqua unit searched a stretch of the river on Saturday afternoon but found nothing.

A number of people have been questioned and inquiries continue.
