Woman (83) dies after Roscommon crash

A woman (83) has died in hospital of injuries received in a car crash yesterday morning in Co Roscommon.

A woman (83) has died in hospital of injuries received in a car crash yesterday morning in Co Roscommon.

The woman, named by gardaí as Josephine Grimes from Killaloe in Co Clare, was the driver of a car that hit a telegraph pole at Knockcroghery at around 9.30am. There were no other vehicles involved.

She was taken to hospital in Roscommon where she later died.

Meanwhile, gardaí have named the man who died in yesterday's crash in Crookedwood, Co Westmeath. He was  Sean Egenton (66) from Oldcastle, Co  Meath.

The woman who died in a crash at  Batterstown, Co Meath  on Thursday has been named as Marie Grimes from Kildalkey, Co Meath. She was 59.

A total of 232 people have died on the State's roads so far this year.
