Gardaí have asked for witnesses to come forward after an assault in Dublin city centre left a man with serious head injuries.

The man was attacked by two other men at 7.30pm on Wood Quay, Dublin 2, a Garda spokesman said.

“It may assist peoples' memory to recall that this Sunday was the first day of the Gay Pride Week,” he added.

He said detectives would in particular like to speak to a woman who witnessed the assault and who got a taxi driver to call emergency services. “This woman then got this taxi to the Ballyfermot area of Dublin,” the spokesman said.

She was able to provide the taxi driver with very accurate descriptions of the cuplrits and what had happened, according to the gardaí.
